Rootbeer is Good for You … Really!

September 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

What was I thinking? At dinner last night, I accidentally gave C a sip of my rootbeer. I quickly realized the error after giving her only one sip, but that was enough of a difference for C. Hoping she does not notice, I switched to her straw sippy with water in it, but I was met with a push of her hand!

Thank goodness it was caffeine free!

Ants Be Gone

September 19, 2008 · 2 Comments

Ants. Just thinking about them makes me itchy.

We saw a few ants last Monday in one of our rooms. I found a possible crack they were coming through and caulked it. I thought that would do the trick.

A few more showed up a few days later – in my kitchen! I have not been able to find the source yet.

I have been doing spot checks of the house each morning and throughout the day when I can. Scared of what I may come across!

There does not seem to be any solution that is “safe” around kids.

I cannot stand ants. Give me a spider anyday!

Better Organization for Blog

September 16, 2008 · 1 Comment

I need to find some time to better organize the categories and tags in this blog as I had previously posted about.  Ann Z offered some ideas on the categorization which were quite helpful.  I’ve been thinking about how I’ll group things.  But, going through the old posts and changing the category and adding tags doesn’t sound too appealing.  Perhaps, I’ll try to find an hour or two uninterrupted in the Fall!

I’m posting quite a bit today as this blog has been quiet for a while so I feel that it needs some focus from me!

New Look!

September 16, 2008 · 3 Comments

We picked up C’s new glasses this past weekend.

She looks so “grown up” in these new frames!   She’s doing well with them although her right eye seems a little more crossed in the glasses.  Perhaps, she has to get used to using the bifocals.  I’ll give it a few more days and then ask the doctor about it.

The glasses seem to stay on fine although the glasses do have a tendency to “drop” lower on her face.  I don’t think that can be helped so I push her glasses back up every so often.  C didn’t have this problem with the pink plastic frames because they fit pretty close to her face and had an elastic tie in the back.   That said, I do love how these glasses fit over her ears so nicely.

Now, I have to find some time to change the header photo in this blog!

We go back to the doctor in October so I hope that the bifocals have a positive effect on her eyes.

Apple “Cake” and Cupcakes Fun

September 16, 2008 · 1 Comment

I have been lazy and haven’t had a chance to make any new meals for dinner.  However, I did try to new recipe for some fruit.  Well, it didn’t involve cooking, but it is a new “recipe.”

My nephew had his first birthday party this past weekend.  He’s allergic to pretty much everything:  wheat, soy, eggs, dairy, nuts.   My sister was not going to have a cake, but I think every child should have something special for his/her first birthday.   I had come across a very unique / cute way to prepare apples so I offered to make a special apple “cake” for my nephew (since apples and bananas are the only two fruits he’s tried thus far).

It was quite a hit!

I also made some cupcakes for the other kids at the party.   It was a lot of fun decorating them!  I spent about 1/2 hour in the store trying to figure out which decorating frosting would be the easiest to use!  I ended up with sprinkles, gel decorator, and some food coloring pens.

Better Shade for a Stroller

September 10, 2008 · 1 Comment

I used an umbrella stroller for the first time on our recent vacation.  Our Peg Perego P3 stroller was just a bit too big so my brother gave us an umbrella stroller to take on the trip.

I love having a more lightweight stroller, but didn’t like the flimsy covers / canopies on them.   It’s not fun having the hot sun shine down on your child, I’m sure!

I found a product called Kiddopotamus & Co Rayshade that easily goes over the umbrella stroller and gives a much needed protection from the sun.  (I read the reviews at Amazon that this cover could work in light rain as well.  Luckily, we had no rain while in Seattle!)    The cover was easy to put on, sort of “blends” into the stroller, and even has two pockets for extra storage of keys, sippy cups, etc.

When not in use, this cover folds easily.  I just stuffed it in the small storage at the back of the stroller.

I felt great that we were able to protect C during the 1-2 days that the sun was shining down intensely in Seattle :-)
