I love reading People magazine. I had a subscription which I let run out. Since I’m not working any more, I wanted to use that money for something else rather than on a magazine which I can read in one day and then throw away!
S gave me a subscription for Christmas, and I enjoyed another issue last week. No idea why, but I like reading about the stars. But, I feel out of touch because there are a lot of younger stars and tv shows that I have no idea about. But give me a few weeks with my People and that’ll all change!

It’s no fun when a child is sick.
C must have caught some sort of stomach virus on Tuesday at lunch when we went out. She threw up in the car (what fun) and several times at home. She couldn’t hold any food or liquid down. We gave her Pedialyte and even that caused her to throw up. We called the dr on Wednesday morning and were told to follow a routine to give her incremental (tsp) dosages of Pedialyte every 15 minutes until she could drink 2-4 oz without throwing up. (We didn’t know about this incremental dosage.)
Finally, I was able to give her some bread on Thursday after her nap. Today, we returned somewhat back to normal, and I gave her bread, chicken, and potatoes (all plain) for her meals.
The worse part of all of this (for me) was hearing her ask for milk or for me to “pour more” when she finished a few sips of the Pedialyte. And, she would stand in the kitchen in front the refrigerator asking for food and crying. And, I tried not to eat in front of her at all.
Now that I’ve gone through this vomiting episode with C, it’ll help me the next time she has stomach virus to know what to expect. We kept calling the doctor’s office since we were worried about her not having any food for so long. Also, for one of the nights, she kept waking up every 1-2 hours and throwing up – although not much came out since she was on Pedialyte. Finally, we insisted on seeing the doctor (if just to rule out anything other than a stomach virus).
I’m glad that C is back to normal and tonight is sleeping in her own bed.
(As a side note, the doctor looked at C’s ears to see if any sign of ear infection. He mentioned a lot of dry wax was in there and suggested that we put a drop or two of cooking oil into her ears every day for a week to loosen the wax. I had never heard of this before. My first thought was “vegetable oil” or “olive oil?” I still need to look this up on the web to see if it’s common knowledge!)

THUD
Definitely not music to my ears. We heard this two nights ago from C’s room. She had fallen / climbed out of her crib!
At (almost) 22 months, C is on the small side at about 22lbs. So, S and I thought that we’d be able to keep her in the crib for just a few more months before we moved her to a toddler bed. About 2 weeks ago, we had ordered a rail since her crib is a convertible crib and converts to a todder bed. It would take about 3-4 months to special order which was fine for us.
Two nights ago, around 4am, we heard C waking up and crying. She generally does this once a night, but will often fall back asleep if we ignore her. She was crying a little harder than normal. After a while, S went in to check on her and told her she was alright and to go back to bed. Then, he left her room. She continued crying and then we heard a THUD. S raced to her room (I was too slow). She walked out of her room, crying slightly. We brought her back to our room to sleep with us.
C seemed OK. We asked her if she had any “owwie” and she didn’t point to any part of her body. We touched all of her limbs, and she was able to move them. She had stopped crying. And, during the day, she acted normally.
We needed a quick solution as the rail was still on special order. I called, and they actually had a rail in stock so I went to pick that up. We installed it last night, and C spent her first night in her “big girl” bed. Of course, it was unfamiliar so she was hysterical when we put her to bed. But, she fell asleep eventually and then woke up at 2am, got out of bed, and stood at the door gate we put at her bedroom door crying to us softly. Not as bad as we expected for a first night in her new bed.
I wonder if we should have gotten a real toddler bed which sits lower to the ground instead of using her crib and a rail. Her new bed sits higher off the floor, and C isn’t able to climb into the bed yet. But, we taught her how to get down from the bed.
I’m just glad that she was fine from the fall. I felt so guilty. I went out and bought her a new pair of Dora shoes and decorations for her room!

S and I watched the Golden Globes last night. I always enjoy watching the awards show to see what everyone is wearing. And, also to hear the speeches, especially any funny ones.
I like the Golden Globes because it’s one show where both TV and movie stars are in one place. We’d love to get a ticket to that!
We haven’t watched most of the movies nominated though. These days, we wait until they come out on DVD. The one that we did see was Dark Knight. S and I both enjoyed that movie.
I want to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The plot of the movie sounds interesting to me. And, I enjoy watching Brad Pitt. I didn’t realize it was inspired by a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Slumdog Millionaire won quite a few Golden Globes so S will probably add this to our list of movies to watch.
I’m looking forward to the Oscars next….

I learned from the Williams-Sonoma catalog that Danish ebelskivers are “light, puffy pancakes filled with jam, curd, fruit, or cheese.” I’ve been getting the WS catalog for a while now and each time, I see their description and photos for the ebelskiver filled-pancake pan. I imagine making batches of ebelskivers for S, C, and me to indulge in. Ebelskivers filled with custard, fruit, or even chocolate (as a dessert).
But, when I put down the catalog, the pan is forgotten. Until the next time I get the catalog in the mail.
Perhaps one day, I’ll order this pan and make these cute little pancakes for my family.

I don’t get enough exercise. S brought up a good point that I can stroll around the neighborhood with C every day to get some walking exercise. I haven’t really made it a point to do that. I have mostly been taking C to classes or playdates (in a car).
When it was summer, it was too hot. Now, it is cool California weather. A bit brisk, but no rain in the forecast.
Here’s to walking!
